Knights to Kings

Last year, the local nonprofit Chess and Community sent eight teenage boys from the Athens area to Ethiopia for three weeks, and local filmmakers Crystal Furlonge and Matt DeGennaro documented their trip. Following two free screenings at Ciné last weekend, Knights to Kings: A Journey to Ethiopia will be shown again at the Morton Theatre on Thursday, June 28. “This event aims to bring the community together to celebrate and support positive youth development, dialogue and initiatives,” says Chess and Community founder Lemuel “Life” LaRoche. A panel discussion featuring former NFL player and Athens native Dunta Robinson, “Lil’ Ice Cream Dude” Beau Shell and Lawrence Harris, director of the Athens Career Academy, will follow.
