All Them Witches, Ranch Ghost

Nashville rock band All Them Witches is a kind of Southern Hawkwind for the Americana era, joining nasty sludge-metal riffs with spaced-out psychedelic folk while nodding to classic blues throughout. Sleeping Through the War, the band’s fourth overall LP and second for Athens-based industry heavyweight New West Records, was produced by Music City engineer du jour Dave Cobb and released in February. Sonically, Cobb and the Witches built vertically on the band’s earlier work, adding layers upon trippy layers to create a chasmic, all-enveloping sound. Garage-rockers Ranch Ghost open Thursday’s 40 Watt show.
