The Beach Boys

Or maybe we should say “The Beach Boys”? Despite a temporary detente for a world tour in 2012, the canonical California pop band’s two principal songwriters, their relationship strained by years of conflicting business and creative decisions, continue to operate as separate entities. Brian Wilson, the lesser-seen and more critically revered of the two, toured last year in honor of the 50th anniversary of the band’s psychedelic masterpiece, Pet Sounds, while co-founder Mike Love and his group of ringers soldier on under the Beach Boys banner. Despite Love’s vanilla leanings, it’s always a hoot to hear tunes like “Good Vibrations,” “California Girls” and, yes, even “Kokomo” in a live setting.
