Richard Lloyd, Casper & the Cookies

Since releasing his 1979 solo debut, Alchemy, Richard Lloyd’s no-frills rock arrangements have illustrated the former Television guitarist’s balance of spiritual and cerebral tunefulness. Songs such as “Number Nine,” from Alchemy, and “Only Friend,” from 2007’s Radiant Monkey, remain imaginative while challenging the expectations that come with being a chief architect of Television’s avant-garde style. These days, Lloyd calls Chattanooga, TN home. When he isn’t painting, he fronts a band featuring Athens guitarist Jason NeSmith (Casper & the Cookies), and Chattanoogans Terry Clouse (bass) and Jeff Brakebill (drums). After releasing a new album, Rosedale, the group plays Caledonia on Saturday. Read a Q&A with Lloyd here.
