Town & Gown Players present David Auburn’s Play, Proof, directed by Beth Kozinsky, with Greer Caldwell as Catherine, the daughter of Robert (John Olive), a brilliant but mentally unstable mathematician. Catherine must come to grips with her own possible inheritance of insanity and with her estranged sister, Claire (Vanessa Murray). Then Hal (Briton Dean), one of her father’s former students, shows up, complicating Catherine’s life further. All about genius, insanity and mathematics, Proof won the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for drama and a Tony for best play. UGA math instructor Joseph A. Vandehey conducts a special talkback following the performance on Saturday, Aug. 9.
