Waycross native and legendary music journalist Stanley Booth has written extensively about tragic-hero rock and R&B figures like James Brown, Elvis Presley and Janis Joplin. But he covered no other subject quite as fervently as he did the Rolling Stones. His biography of that band, The True Adventures of the Rolling Stones, unflinchingly covers the drug-addled ups and downs of the group’s 1969 tour—which culminated in the infamous Altamont Free Festival—and is widely cited as one of the most brutally and entertainingly honest rock bios to date. Booth, who recently relocated to Athens, will sign copies of his books and participate in a discussion following the 5 & 7:30 p.m. screenings of Gimme Shelter, the 1970 doc that follows the band on its aforementioned U.S. tour.
