Square One Is Opening, Mirko Is Closed and More Restaurant News


Seafood restaurant Square One will be open in Normaltown this Friday at 5 p.m. and is not taking reservations, so you might have to wait a bit.

The last location of Mirko Pasta anywhere nearby, in downtown Watkinsville, closed a few weeks ago. Locations remain in Atlanta, Marietta, Mobile, AL and Nashville.

Off the Vine, in Winterville, where you can get breakfast biscuits and hot lunches along with the baked items and fresh produce, has added Sunday hours for groceries and ice cream.

Holy Crepe doesn’t have regular hours for breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Friday anymore, but still does catering and can be found many places around town.

Lil’ Ice Cream Dude’s Cool World store finally opened (!!!) in the Ansonborough development on Gaines School Road, just in time for the now quite-tall ice cream dude’s 15th birthday. Go show him some love.

B’s Cracklin’ Barbecue, out of Atlanta and Savannah, is having a pop-up this Friday and Saturday starting at 4 p.m. at Creature Comforts to raise funds for rebuilding after a fire.

Shiraz’s summer clearance sale started Wednesday, with deep discounts.

The National will be closed June 30 through July 7 for maintenance and repairs.

Newk’s Eatery, a national fast-casual franchise from the folks who own McAlister’s, is looking at opening two locations in Athens. It serves sandwiches, salads, pizza, soups, macaroni and cheese and layer cakes, plus a kids’ menu.

Five Points is holding a block party on Sunday from 2–4 p.m. at el Barrio, with Terrapin beer, samples from a bunch of restaurants and live music. Tickets are $40 per adult, free for kids 12 and under. Proceeds benefit the school garden at Barrow Elementary.
