15-cent Pizza, Burgers and Brews, a Flagpole Fundraiser and More Food Events

For tax day tomorrow (Apr. 18), pizza chain Hungry Howie’s, on Baxter, is offering a medium one-topping pizza for a mere 15 cents if you buy a large one-topping pizza at regular menu price (promo code TAXDAY) online.

Kristie Middleton, senior director of food policy for the Humane Society of the United States and author of MeatLess: Transform the Way You Eat and Live—One Meal at a Time, will be signing her book at Avid on Prince at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow (still Apr. 18). Middleton isn’t trying to get people to commit to vegetarianism immediately. Rather, her book tries to encourage people to incorporate vegetable-based meals into their diets more often. Also: Paul McCartney liked it.

Thursday, Apr. 20 from 8–11 p.m., Heirloom Cafe will host a pop-up cocktail event with T Silva from Hi-Lo to benefit the Boybutante AIDS foundation (which gets 10 percent of sales for the day). Bar snacks by Heirloom chef Joel Penn.

The same night, from 6-8 p.m. (so you can totally go to both), White Tiger hosts a fundraiser for Stranger Danger, Flagpole‘s band in the Athens Business Rocks competition, featuring “Stranger Things”-themed music, food and drinks. Proceeds will benefit Nuci’s Space.

Local brewery Creature Comforts will celebrate its three-year anniversary this weekend (Apr. 22 and 23), with anniversary tours from 1–6 p.m. those days and “Early Creature Tours” from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. The regular ones are $30, and the early-bird ones are $40, but get you guaranteed access to special beers that may sell out by the later tours. Everyone gets special stemware, and 10 percent of revenues go to its Get Comfortable charitable program. More info and links to tickets are here.

MyAthens is hosting a Burgers and Beers event at Terrapin on Sunday, Apr. 23, from 5:30–8 p.m. Tickets are $40.38 each for general admission, with an optional upgrade of $12.29 to get in an hour early and access a VIP tap selection; another $12.29 gets you the “Total Foodie Package,” which ensures you get to eat all 10 sliders available instead of the mere 7 the regular ticket gets you. All tickets include 36 oz of beer. Confirmed vendors include The Place, Chops & Hops, The World Famous, South Kitchen + Bar, Craft Public House and Five Bar.

The Athens Food Truck Market will kick off its season on Apr. 26 at Jittery Joe’s Roaster on Barber from 11 a.m.–8 p.m. Trucks on hand include Holy Crepe, DaMunchiezz, Kona Ice, Nedza’s Waffles and Taqueria 1785.

home.made will celebrate its first anniversary as a real-deal fine-dining restaurant on Apr. 29 from 9–11 p.m., with jazz by the Dixieland Five, New Orleans-style cocktails and bar snacks.

Earlier that day, the West Broad Farmers Market will open for the season at 9 a.m., with bounce houses and kids’ activities as well as veggies and prepared foods.

And finally (probably not but let’s pretend this is the last food event in April) 1000 Faces will host its next Biscuits and Coffee Love event, with Farm Cart + coffee, benefiting Project Safe, on Apr. 30 from 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
