The Seed and Plate, an online food-focused Athens magazine, is hosting an Athens location of a series of events called Empty Bowls South, not to be confused with the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia’s annual Empty Bowls Luncheon, which will be held Mar. 1 at the Classic Center. The Seed and Plate’s dinner happens tonight (Jan. 16), with seatings at 6 and 8 p.m. The former is sold out, but there are stll tickets available for the 8 p.m. seating, or you can make a donation on its website.

The dinner takes place at The Old Pal in Normaltown, and 100 percent of proceeds benefit the Athens Immigrant Rights Coalition and the American Civil Liberties Union. Tickets are $40, and get you one beautiful handmade bowl, donated by a local potter, and a nice meal. Food donations are coming from Donna Chang’s, The National, Seabear, Woodland Gardens, The Turnip Truck and Community Meat Co.

Terrapin’s annual Wake and Bake-off, a partnership with My Athens that involves both professionals and amateurs competing to create dishes featuring Terrapin beer, is set for Sunday, Jan. 22. Tickets are $40 (enter at 5:30 p.m., 36 ounces of beer, plus a sample of food from each vendor) or $60 (enter early at 4:30 p.m., get the same amount of beer and food, but also access to some new limited-edition high-gravity brews) and can be purchased online
