The Place to Open in Five Star Day Space Downtown

If you’ve passed the old Five Star Day location at the corner of College and Broad recently, you may have noticed that there is stuff going on inside. The Pope brothers (Alan and Ryan), who own Gnat’s Landing in St. Simons (but didn’t own the Athens location) and used to own Sweet Peppers locally, are the lessees, and their new restaurant, The Place, is shooting to open in January.

Focusing on a similar genre to Five Star (Southern comfort classics), but adding a full bar and cocktail program, The Place will do lunch and dinner. Downstairs will continue to operate as the main dining room, but build-out upstairs has turned that space into an extra dining room with bar-style seating, rentable for private parties.

No word yet on who’s taking the reins in the kitchen, but we’ll update when we know.
