Well, dang. I had really hoped Four Brothers (reviewed here) might be able to make a go of it in the Arbor on Mitchell Bridge Road, but that space has claimed another victim, as of a few weeks ago.
Sweet Peppers Deli, at the corner of Broad and Pulaski downtown, has also announced that it will be closing after lunch on July 20. In that case, the situation is a little different, as owners Alan and Ryan Pope said they were offered a deal to sell the building they couldn’t turn down.
Gigi’s Cupcakes and Artini’s will remain open, and there is a possibility of Sweet Peppers opening in a different location in the future, but that’s all very tenuous. The new owners haven’t figured out what they want to do with the space yet, so we’ll see.
In other news:
- Siri Thai’s original Bottleworks location is closing for a few weeks to do some renovations, according to Sloane Nichols of Atlas Real Estate Advisors, which represents owner Parkside Partners, but will be reopening after July 20.
- A-OK Cafe, under Marvin’s Shoe Repair on College Avenue downtown, is in a similar situation, but with no date of reopening set.
- In case you missed it, Scott Bailey, who makes bagels at Athens Bagel Company downtown, has started weekly pop-up dinners (non-bagel-focused) in the space on Wednesday nights. He said:
Jackson St. Wed. Night Suppers is a weekly 3-course 12 seat dinner with a prix fixe menu that expresses cook Erin Scott Bailey’s love of seasonality and Southern cooking. All dinners are BYOB/W with a non-alcoholic beverage option offered in-house. Glassware will be provided and beverages served by our staff. Seating will be at a community table so we can all get to know each other. The menu is always subject to change due to availability of ingredients or simply the whims of the cook. Reservations will be taken until Sunday at 11:59 pm for the following Wednesday. We will take reservations as far into the future as you’d like. We ask all diners to pay in cash the night of the dinner. The suggested donation is $45 per diner. Every dinner will be 7-9 pm and we suggest showing up 15 mins early. When booking a reservation please leave a name, the number in your party, which Wednesday you’d like, and a phone number we can reach you. - Saucehouse BBQ broke ground yesterday on its building, on the site of the former Peaches on West Broad.
