Apparently folks quit drinking after the zombie apocalypse.
On last night’s Season Four premiere of “The Walking Dead,” Daryl and a crew of prison newcomers raid a grocery store for supplies. The store was full of prominently-placed cases of Georgia craft beer, including Athens’ own Terrapin Rye.
How is this beer still there? Personally, I’d be drunk all the time if undead walkers were ready to chew my neck off at any given moment, but I guess the cast of “The Walking Dead” has more discipline than I do. Without giving away any spoilers, only one character is tempted by the treasure trove of alcohol, and it doesn’t end well.
Time‘s recap of the episode says:
The writers and production designers did a great job of reminding us that our story takes place is what’s left of central Georgia. Rick and our Irish refugee talk about the sculptures at the Atlanta Airport (I, too, have spent a night sleeping near those sculptures), and in the store’s liquor section there are cases of two of my favorite beers: Atlanta’s Sweetwater Brewing Company and Athens’ own Terrapin Beer Company. One of the falling walkers smashes some of the beer cases, lending the scene an extra level of tragedy.
The website Beer Street Journal (which has a bunch of screen grabs) notes that “The Walking Dead’s set designers often reach out to local brewers asking for beer, signage and boxes to be used as props for filming.”
