Terrapin Has a New Beer

Terrapin—traditionally known for its hoppy ales—announced today its malty session beer Tree Hugger will be available year-round starting next month.

Terrapin Beer Co. has a new addition to their year-round line-up. Though known for their love of hops, Terrapin will step outside the lines and bring Tree Hugger “Altcentric” Ale on as a full time brew. In addition to the beer being available year-round, the company has forged a new ongoing partnership as well.

When you drink Tree Hugger, you’ll also be helping protect Southern forests. For this new ale, Terrapin Beer Co. has partnered with Dogwood Alliance, an organization formed in 1996 and dedicated to protecting Southern forests and communities from destructive logging practices. Tree Hugger was originally a special draft-only release for the 2012 Decatur Green Fest, also in support of Dogwood Alliance. That original limited draft-only release of this beer was so adored that the decision to make it the newest member of Terrapin’s year-round schedule was an easy one. With a mild herbal spice hop aroma and a malty flavor profile featuring notes of caramel, toffee, and nuts, this malt-forward beer will be a welcome compliment to Terrapin’s current hop-forward roster.

Malts: 2-Row Pale, Munich, CaraMunich III, Melanoidin, DH Carafa II

Hops: Mt. Hood, Vanguard

ABV: 5.1%

IBU: 30

OG: 12.1

Tree Hugger is available now in kegs (1/6 BBL and 1/2 BBL). 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles will be available in April within Terrapin’s nine-state distribution network.
