Looks like ATHICA will soon be looking for a new artistic director. Current director Lizzie Zucker Saltz has sent out a press release which states:

“…despite the many, many joys of this past decade, I have decided to transition out as ATHICA’s director for personal reasons during the next six-nine months, handing over the reins by Jan. 1, 2013 at the latest.”

She adds that she “will continue to be associated as artistic director emerita, consultant and occasional curator.

The ATHICA board—which is comprised of Katherine McQueen, president; Elliot Gootman, treasurer; Jordan Rothacker, secretary; and board members John English, Katherine Hodges, Michael Lachowski, Judith McWillie and Beth Sale—says they will also use this transitional period as a time to restructure and re-evaluate the organization.

Here’s hoping ATHICA can find a director with the same enthusiasm and generous spirit as Lizzie. She has truly changed the landscape of the Athens art scene, raised awareness about local causes and championed many up-and-coming local artists. Thanks, Lizzie!
