Monday Is the Last Day to Register to Vote in the May 24 Elections

If you want to vote in the upcoming May 24 elections, today, Apr. 25, is the last day to register.

On the May ballot are both the Democratic and Republican partisan primaries to choose nominees for the general election, as well as nonpartisan Athens-Clarke County races for mayor, county commission and school board. (While you have to pick a primary, everyone gets a nonpartisan ballot.) Those local races are especially important, as they’ll be decided next month or in a June runoff, not in November.

Some of the high-profile party contests include the Republican primary between Gov. Brian Kemp and former Sen. David Perdue (who is speaking to the Oconee County GOP tonight), as well as other statewide races, and both Democratic and Republican races for the 10th Congressional District, which includes Athens.

Some other key upcoming dates: Monday, May 2, is the start of in-person advance voting; and Friday, May 13, is the last day to request an absentee ballot.
