We should thank Pete McCommons every week for his Flagpole column.  But he should be riding on the shoulders of dedicated college educators all over the country for reminding even the most fervent football fanatics among us that college football—as it is now organized, promoted and played—has little to do with college and everything to do with generating revenue for the football programs and commercial sponsors, not for education or educators.

Unfortunately, he is probably also right in his acknowledgment that not much can or will be done about it.  Just like our flawed political election process, when money gains control, the perverse version of the Golden Rule applies:  Them that has the gold, make the rules.
