Athens Power Rankings for the Week of Aug. 18

Welcome to Athens Power Rankings. In the spirit of sports rating systems, through painstaking analysis, we rank the top movers and shakers in the Classic City each week. Who’s hot? Who’s not? Find out below.

1. UGA students

Class started today. All the helicopter parents have (hopefully) cleared out after clogging up every restaurant in town for the past week, and things should start settling down soon. It might even be safe to go to Target again.

2. Eleanor Davis

The local cartoonist has a new book out, How to Be Happy, and a book signing coming up at Avid. Read more in this week’s Flagpole.

3. Rashaun Ellis

The comments on this are epic. Whether you agree, disagree or completely miss the point, that’s pretty powerful stuff.

4. Noun Factory

Kimberly Drew and Jared Collins’ community arts and performance space is soon to be up and running. Now if someone would do something about Athens’ verb shortage.

5. Lucy Rowland

The longtime Athens-Clarke County planning commissioner told me she’ll never be in the power rankings because she’s too nerdy. “I actually read the MACORTS Long Range Transportation Plan and TIP draft reports and make notes. Believe me, nobody else does that.” Ha! Proved you wrong!
