Athens Power Rankings for the Week of July 28

Welcome to Athens Power Rankings. In the spirit of sports rating systems, through painstaking analysis, we rank the top movers and shakers in the Classic City each week. Who’s hot? Who’s not? Find out below.

1. Melissa Link

Athens-Clarke County’s newest commissioner won last week’s contentious runoff election with 54 percent of the vote. Finally, Athens can get back to obsessing over listicles.

2. Iris Aued

Speaking of winning and things that end in “ticles,” City Editor Blake and his wife Merritt welcomed this lil’ bundle of joy to the world last week. Look for her byline in the coming weeks.

3. Better Georgia

The local nonprofit is a big part of the reason the upcoming governor’s race has gotten interesting. See this week’s Flagpole for more.

4. SlopFest

The raucous three-day concert was a resounding success.

5. Creature Comforts Brewery

The downtown beer-maker has ironed out the kinks and (SPOILER ALERT) its brews received a glowing review from Flagpole‘s beer critic. Check out this week’s paper for more.
