Athens Power Rankings for the Week of May 5

Welcome to Athens Power Rankings. In the spirit of sports rating systems, through painstaking analysis, we rank the top movers and shakers in the Classic City each week. Who’s hot? Who’s not? Find out below.

1. UGA graduates

Spring 2014 commencement takes place this Friday evening at Sanford Stadium, where thousands of students will don the ol’ cap and gown. GOOD THING THERE ARE ALL THOSE JOBS WAITING FOR THEM.

2. ACC Public Works

By all accounts, our local government did a bang-up job cleaning up after the nutty-ass wake low that hit Athens last Wednesday.

3. Tim Denson

On the other hand, local government did not look so hot Wednesday night, when Mayor Nancy Denson, in response to a question prompted by last week’s Flagpole cover story, delivered some questionable comments regarding sexual assault. Her opponent earned power points by default.

4. Art Rocks Athens

The foundation kicked off its series of exhibits Thursday with a well-attended event at the UGA Special Collections Libraries.

5. Tandi Murphy-Hall

The force behind this weekend’s Up Your Athens Punk/Ska Fest deserves a mention for working to bring all-ages shows to downtown Athens. See this week’s Threats and Promises on Wednesday for more.
