Upcoming Campaign Events in Athens

Only two flags? Come on, Jack, you can do better.

Campaign season is in full swing. Here are a few upcoming events where you can size up the candidates for yourselves.

Senate candidate and U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Athens) is speaking at the Young Insurance Agents’ Power Up! Sales and Leadership Conference at the Classic Center at 11 a.m. Friday. Sounds exciting! No word yet on whether he’ll sweep the floor.

Another Senate candidate, Eugene Yu, will be at the Athens GOP meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10 at the Country Inn & Suites on Old Epps Bridge Road, along with District 10 congressional candidate Gary Gerrard and David S. Dwyer, a real estate consultant who’ll be giving a talk on development in downtown Athens.

A “Mix and Mingle” for District 7 commission candidate Diane Bell is planned for this Sunday, Feb. 9 from 4–6 p.m. at 575 Milledge Circle.

Next Sunday, Feb. 16, is Tim for Athens Music Night. The Rodney Kings, Jacob Morris, Sea of Dogs and Eureka California will be playing starting at 7 p.m. at the Hi-Lo Lounge. It’s free, but mayoral candidate Tim Denson will be accepting donations.

Tuesday, Feb. 18, Mayor Nancy Denson will be hosting a meet-and-greet from 5:30–7 p.m. at The Classic Center.

Further out, state Sen. Jason Carter (D-Decatur), who’s running for governor, will be the featured guest at a Clarke County Democrats fundraiser Feb. 27. Tickets start at $100.
