Looks Like Bill Cowsert Is Running for Congress

He won’t make it official until later this month, but it’s obvious from this news release that state Sen. Bill Cowsert (R-Athens) is running for Rep. Paul Broun’s congressional seat now that Broun’s running for U.S. Senate.

(Athens, GA) – Conservative Republican State Senator Bill Cowsert (R-46) will announce his intentions concerning the 10th Congressional District after the legislative session concludes.

Said Cowsert, “I have greatly enjoyed the seven years I have served the citizens of Clarke, Oconee and Walton counties in the State Senate.  During my time in public service, I have worked to find common sense solutions to solve the problems facing Georgians today.

“What we see in Washington these days is very disturbing.  The federal government is simply out-of-control.  Our massive national debt and the dysfunction in Washington threaten our families and the future of our country.  That is why I just passed a resolution in the Senate calling for a Constitutional Amendment mandating a federal balanced budget. We must get America back on the path to fiscal sanity and that begins by electing proven, common sense, conservative leaders to Congress.

“Since Congressman Broun’s announcement to run for the United States Senate, I have been approached by people from all areas of the 10th Congressional District asking me to run for the open seat, and I appreciate their encouragement and support.  While I am seriously considering a run for Congress, I remain focused on the task at hand – representing the hard working people of the 46th Senate District to the best of my ability.  Therefore, I have decided to wait until after the legislative session to announce my intentions.”

That resolution is just the type of pointless pandering GOP primary voters love.

Also, Cowsert has apparently hired Ryan Mahoney, who managed Martha Zoller’s 9th District congressional campaign last year.
