Interim Athens-Clarke County Fire Chief Nate Moss Made Permanent

ACC Fire Chief Nate Moss.

Twenty-year veteran Nate Moss is the new chief of Athens-Clarke County’s Fire and Emergency Services Department.

County Manager Blaine Williams named Moss to the position last week. He had been serving as interim fire chief since Jeff Scarborough retired in October.

“After a national search for a new fire chief, I am excited to name Interim Chief Moss to the permanent position,” Williams said in a news release. “His dedication to the department and the people who serve this community is extraordinary. I know he will be an invaluable asset to the Athens-Clarke County community, the Fire and Emergency Services Department and ACCGov as a whole.”

Moss has spent his entire career with the ACC fire department, including serving as a battalion chief and public information officer. Since joining the department in 2003, he has worked on all three shifts, obtained his emergency medical technician license, managed emergency responses and trained other firefighters.

“Being appointed Fire Chief of Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services is the greatest professional honor of my career,” Moss said. “The greatest strength of our department is our people, and I will strive every day to assure that with teamwork and collaboration we forge our identity as an outstanding fire department that offers unparalleled service to our community.”
