Flagpole Premieres: Red Dakota, Self-Titled EP

Credit: Christian Lindsey

Today, local indie rock band Red Dakota shares its debut self-titled EP on all streaming platforms. Alyssa Terry (vocals, acoustic guitar), Derek Terry (drums), Lauren Leathers (bass), Christian Gerner-Smidt (electric guitar, backup vocals) and Julie Holmes (electric guitar, backup vocals) come together to create a sound steeped in millennial nostalgia for the ’90s.

The band’s bio self-describes itself as making “music that invites you to scream your heart out and send mildly passive-aggressive texts with zero regrets.” The EP delivers a blast of emotional energy, but it does so in a polished way with the help of Terry’s clear, confident and charming vocals.

“This EP is the most personal project I’ve ever created. It’s also the first that all five of us have been able to contribute to the recording process, and I’m so grateful for the heart, time and creativity that everyone has brought. Every person in the band has helped take these songs from incredibly personal to something bigger and more meaningful. The Red Dakota EP is a declaration of identity, growth and resilience,” says Terry.

Red Dakota is celebrating its release tonight at Flicker Theatre and Bar with Dri+Violence and Seeking Approval. Doors open at 8 p.m. with the show starting at 9 p.m., so show up on time with $10 in hand to support.
