Classic Center Arena Reveals Artists Performing at its Inaugural Concert

During a press conference on Monday, July 15, the Classic Center Arena revealed that The B-52s will perform at its first-ever concert slated for Saturday, Dec. 14. DJ Cummerbund and of Montreal will open the night.

“Athenians should be proud of this arena and this next chapter in our storied music history,” said Velena Vego, longtime talent buyer of the 40 Watt Club and VP of Third Party Programming for Live Nation. “The B-52s are perfect to represent Athens and the launch of the new Classic Center Arena because they embody the spirt of the Athens music scene from the very start. Like Athens, The B-52s have gone from house parties to the 40 Watt to becoming internationally known and loved. And now, the band opening the new arena is an important symbol of the next chapter of our music history.”

Formed in 1976, The B-52s have since become woven into the cultural tapestry of their hometown of Athens. The city’s new professional minor-league ice hockey team—which will compete at the arena—recently announced that its name will the Rock Lobsters, an homage to the band and the city’s rich musical heritage. Additionally, memorabilia of The B-52s and other notable Georgia musicians will be prominently featured throughout the arena’s concourse through a partnership with the Georgia Music Collections of the UGA Special Collections Libraries. 

Tickets will go on sale Friday, July 19 at 10 a.m. and will range from $39.50–249.50. An exclusive artist presale will begin Tuesday, July 16 at 10 a.m. using the code “LOBSTER24” at classiccenter.com.
