Testing Reflex, the experimental hyperpop project of musician and visual artist Kayt Regan and musician and developer Jackie Wucher, has just released a new music video for the single, “Stingray.”
In addition to footage shot at the Georgia Aquarium, the tripped out video spotlights two different miniature artist-made worlds. Fairyland Caverns at Rock City in Lookout Mountain, an underground collection of three-dimensional dioramas of classic fairytales, adds a psychedelic pop of fluorescence. There are also scenes from artist Dewitt “Old Dog” Boyd’s Rock Garden in Calhoun, a collection of over 50 tiny castles, churches and other buildings constructed from pebbles, shells, class and tiles.
“‘Stingray’ explores the frenzied experience of being moved by survival instincts and unknowable forces compelling one to protect their body,” says the band. “Seeing as this experience is a commonality amongst all animals, the song portrays the dark, yet spellbinding emotions that arise when witnessing animals in captivity. We empathize with the suffering of their subjugation, but often the desire for novelty overrides what we know to be ethically right.”
