Chapel, an Athens-based duo composed of vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Carter Hardin and drummer Kortney Grinwis, recently released a music video for their new single, “Mushy Gushy.” Released through Rise Records, the song follows the pair’s success with their debut EP Sunday Brunch, which has garnered over 5.25 million streams worldwide.
The synth-pop, Jazz cup embodiment of “Mushy Gushy” provides a solid backdrop for the over-sentimental lyrics—akin to John Cusack serenading his love interest from outside her window in Cameron Crowe’s Say Anything. Directed and animated by Peter Ferris Rosati, the retro-styled music video depicts the unbridled emotion that comes along with the honeymoon phase of a new relationship via an anthropomorphic creature within the online dating world.
