Flagpole Premieres: Cicada Rhythm, ‘Sky Bird’ Video (Pity Party Session)

Folk trio Cicada Rhythm has been a Flagpole fave since the duo of Andrea DeMarcus and Dave Kirslis moved to Athens in 2013. In 2015, the group released its official debut via Normaltown Records. Since then, the band’s been gigging steadily and quietly working on new material.

The band, now a trio, recently stopped by the Pity Party Social Club to play “Sky Bird,” a lilting new tune that you can stream below:

In other Pity Party news, proprietor Taylor Chicoine reports that a recent crowdfunding campaign to help purchase a new computer for the local DIY venue and music-video outlet was successful. Chicoine’s statement, in part:

The Pity Party would like to say thank you to the Athens community for its constant and continued support. Specifically to those who donated to the recent GoFundMe campaign, the Athens Area Arts Council for awarding The Pity Party its quarterly grant for local artists, all who have ever attended a show and, of course, all the musicians nice enough to let me film them. Thanks to all of you, The Pity Party was able to acquire a new computer, new monitors, a new backup hard drive and some essential cables and connectors that will greatly extend the life of The Party… [W]ith the new computer, editing tasks that used to take 90 minutes now only take five! I am honored to be so supported in our community, and cannot thank you enough for helping me keep this project going!
