Kai Riedl, the creator and director of Athens’ Slingshot Festival, has accepted a job as executive producer for Moogfest in Durham, NC.
Riedl’s new duties include handling all production aspects of the electronic and experimental-music event, which was formerly held in Asheville but moved to Durham last year.
Riedl says Slingshot, as an organization, is making a turn into functioning more as an agency through which events are organized, including future events in such far-flung places as Mexico City and India.
New Slingshot partner Vivek Boray is helping spearhead these developments, as well as being the man on the ground here in Athens for all things Slingshot.
“Slingshot will continue in some form in Athens,” says Riedl. In addition to its local component, Riedl says Slingshot is “going to expand to [Atlanta] and other parts, and possibly pair up with Moogfest here and there.”
