Daniel Johnston’s headlining appearance at Saturday’s Athens Popfest show at the Georgia Theatre has been canceled, according to posts on the singer’s social media channels.

No word yet on a replacement act, or whether Johnston’s Athens appearance will be rescheduled. We’ve reached out to Popfest organizers and will update when an official statement is made.

UPDATE: Popfest has confirmed the cancellation, posting the following on Facebook:

Dear Athens Popfest Fans,

Due to inclement weather impeding airport access, headliner Daniel Johnston missed his outbound flight. Unfortunately, we were not able to reschedule a flight for him that would get him here on time. Tonight’s show at the Georgia Theatre will continue as scheduled and now feature Athens legends Love tractor as headliners. Doors are at 7 p.m. and music begins at 7:30 p.m.

Daniel sends his deepest regrets, and is quite bummed he won’t be making it. He loves Athens and intends to return.
