Arvin Scott to Lead ‘Beat the Drum’ Nuci’s Benefit in Honor of Carl Lindberg

Carl Lindberg

On Saturday, June 6 at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, Athens percussionist Arvin Scott will lead a rhythmic tribute to the late Carl Lindberg as part of his Beat the Drum series.

“I, along with Sunny Ortiz of Widespread Panic, created Beat the Drum 18 years ago years ago as a fundraiser, and found that gathering together in rhythm can be both healing and uplifting,” Scott is quoted as saying in a press release. “It seemed the perfect tribute to Carl, who was a dear friend to so many in Athens, and loved the State Botanical Garden.”

The event, which takes place from 9–11 a.m., is free, though donations will be taken for Nuci’s Space, the local nonprofit musicians resource center. Scott encourages attendees to “bring a drum, a shaker, cowbell, Sprite can or just your hands.”
