Hear a Terrific New Cassie Chantel Track: ‘The Dedication’

Local emcee Cassie Chantel has been building up steam for the last couple years; she recently followed up last year’s solid Enjoy mixtape with a sequel, Enjoy Two, this past March. And today, via her website, she leaked a brand new track. “The Dedication” is a sparse and seductive tune with production courtesy of AyoWayneKilldit where Chantel details a relationship gone bad.

The multitalented Chantel tells Flagpole that she “recorded and mixed everything [herself].” Her laconic vocal delivery and suggestive lyricism have garnered comparisons to Lil Wayne in the past, and it’s likely no coincidence that the title of her new track is also the name of a well loved series of Weezy tapes. Still, Chantel continues to hone a sound all her own: dark, nuanced, recognizably Southern but also pop-focused.
