Don’t Be a Dummy! Tonight’s Halloween Shows to See

Since Halloween is basically Athens’ Christmas, I figured I’d give y’all a special mid-week edition of Don’t Be a Dummy!â„¢ You’re welcome! Here’s a list of the fun music-related stuffs hap’nin tonight.

Gucci Mane @ Manor: If you’re looking for the wildest, weirdest party of the night, this might be a good place to start. The Atlanta trap icon takes the stage for an evening of who-knows-what. You should maybe be there.

Big Eyed Beans From Venus, Black Velvet, Games For May, DJ Peach Salsa @ 40 Watt Club: Athens’ own Captain Beefheart cover band returns after a two-year hiatus to share a bill with Velvet Underground and Pink Floyd cover bands. Maybe they’ll play that terrific, uncharacteristically tender Beefheart tune above. It’s Halloween! Anything can happen!

Belle & Sebastian, Beat Happening, The Mummies, Talking Heads @ Farm 255: Cover versions of all those bands, including Talking Head “karaoke,” where fans are invited to sing on stage with the group. Featuring Flagpole‘s office manager Jessica Smith as a Mummy!

Skary-aoke @ Office Lounge: Despite the questionably spelled title for this event, it promises to be a hoot. Get your spooky karaoke on, complete with costume contest, special lighting and more!

Ritvals, Yip Deceiver, Hobgoblin, DJ Fog Juice @ Go Bar: The real star of this show is Hobgoblin, a recently assembled group that will cover portions of Italian proggers Goblin’s Suspiria soundtrack while a group of performers reenacts scenes from the Dario Argento classic. Neato.

Cosmic Charlie presents Dark Side of the Dead @ Melting Point: Half Grateful Dead covers, half Pink Floyd. If that ain’t a recipe for happy-white-dude juice, I dunno what is.
