Tidbits

So, um, obviously you’ve heard about Weaver D’s having financial difficulties, and I’m sure many of you have taken a trip to eat there as a result. It’s a sobering reminder of just how hard it is to make it in the restaurant business, where profit margins are sliver-thin. That said, it does seem that Dexter Weaver’s ploy is at least helping people remember his wonderful restaurant exists, which is a step in the right direction. What you definitely don’t want to do is go read the comments on the Banner-Herald‘s story, which mostly consist of complaining about not liking one item or other on the menu. It’s not a constructive approach to take, and if you do the same thing here, you are not helping. I’m a big fan of his food and his restaurant, and whether you like his style or not, it’s an important business to this town.

In other news, The National is offering its “during the game” prix fixe again, with three courses for $30 this Saturday evening, including “braised Cornish game hen (aka petite Gamecock).” Somehow I doubt said game will actually be on in any capacity in the restaurant, but you could always set your DVR if you want to eat your apple cake and have it, too.

Finally, Night Out for Life, the percentage night that benefits AIDS Athens, is coming up Oct. 17 and the list of restaurants participating is lengthy:
