Don’t Be a Dummy! This Weekend’s Shows to See

FRIDAY, SEPT. 28

Pigs on the Wing @ 40 Watt Club: Let’s be honest, seeing Pigs on the Wing—a Pink Floyd cover band featuring members of Maserati, STS9, Kite to the Moon and more—is probably gonna be way cooler than seeing what’s left of Pink Floyd these days.

Motion Sickness of Time Travel, Grant Evans, Williams, Mother’s Arms @ Flicker Theatre & Bar: Local drone purveyors Grant and Rachel Evans host a show at Flicker featuring Asheville noisemakers Williams and I Come To Shanghai side project Mother’s Arms.

The Dirty Guv’nahs, Thomas Wynn and the Believers, Roadkill Ghost Choir @ Georgia Theatre: A night of rock and roll pleasure featuring the Americana-tinged indie rock sounds of Roadkill Ghost Choir, a band that hails from Chipper Jones’ hometown of DeLand, FL. (Sorry, just gettin’ a little misty over here about the old man’s impending exit.)

Tin Roof Music Fest @ Little Kings Shuffle Club: Sam Sniper, Brothers, Furies, Androcles and the Lion, The Breaks: heckuva lineup for the second iteration of this “festival,” a benefit for the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 29

OFF!, Negative Approach, Double Negative @ 40 Watt Club: FUCK YEAH OFF! AND BOTH THOSE OTHER BANDS ARE SUPER AWESOME HAVE YOU SEEEEEN DOUBLE NEGATIVE -/- DON’T MISS THIS ONE OK

Buzz Hungry, Grass Giraffes, New Madrid, Velocirapture @ Caledonia Lounge: Excuse me. Anyway, this is gonna be another banger. First show in over 15 years for David Barbe’s Buzz Hungry, which, as you can hear above, churned out some pretty fine fuzz-rock in its time. Plus, three awesome young locals, including Velocirapture, which features another Barbe (Winston).

Kater Mass, No Babies, DJ Fog Juice @ Go Bar: In addition to the gripping melodic punk of local band Kater Mass, there’s lots to enjoy about Oakland, CA’s No Babies, who rock with a spastic reminiscence of groups like Black Eyes. Get yer flail on!

SUNDAY, SEPT. 30

Matt Hudgins, She Wolf @ Highwire Lounge: Wind down the weekend with a couple sets from Athens’ finest. Then: It’s October! Yay?
