Your Local Holiday Grub Guide for Thanksgiving Dinner

Chops and Hops

It’s your annual Turkey Day roundup of local businesses that are offering sides, turkeys, full meals and desserts for pick-up, or are open on Thanksgiving Day to serve you a feast. We’ll update this article as information becomes available, so don’t fret if your favorite isn’t listed yet.

Athens Cooks is doing a full feast that feeds 6 to 8 and will run you $400, including an oven-roasted organic, free-range whole turkey; cornbread dressing; green bean casserole with mushroom duxelles and fried shallots; sweet potato casserole with a brown sugar-pecan topping; gravy; orange-cinnamon cranberry compote; a dozen fresh homemade dinner rolls; whipped honey butter and a chocolate and bourbon pecan pie. Only a dozen are available, with a deadline of Nov. 16 at noon, orderable on the store’s website, for pickup Nov. 22 before 5 p.m. You can also order the sides individually or add extra. No substitutions.

The Burch food truck has turkey or ham ($100), prime rib ($200), roasted tenderloin ($150) and lamb shoulder ($120), each to feed 4–5, as well as sides (cornbread dressing, mac and cheese, sweet potato casserole, boursin mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, shoepeg corn, broccoli casserole, chipotle cheddar cornbread, kale salad) at $40 per half-pan/serves 4–5; appetizers (baked brie, sausage stuffed mushrooms, pigs in a blanket and cocktail meatballs) at $30/serves 4–5; and whole pies (pumpkin, apple, pecan, chocolate cream) at $30 each. Order by Nov. 15 by emailing [email protected] for pick-up at Oconee Brewing Co.

Butt Hutt is smoking turkeys for $65 each (16–19 lbs.) for pick-up Nov. 22 after 4 p.m. or Nov. 23 (Thanksgiving Day) from 8–10 a.m. Call 706-850-8511 by Nov. 19 to reserve.

Cabin Creek BBQ Co., in Nicholson, is doing smoked turkeys (half or whole, $12.99/lb), sides (cornbread dressing, squash casserole, sweet potato soufflé, all $35 half-pan/$69 whole pan; mac and cheese, $27/$50; and green beans, $24/$50) and gravy ($10/qt). Call 706-757-2267 or email [email protected] by Nov. 17 to order. Cold pick-up Nov. 22; hot pick-up Thanksgiving Day.

Chops and Hops is doing turkey (regular or herb-crusted), ham, braised balsamic roast beef, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, dressing, gravy, sweet potato casserole, braised vegetables, mac and cheese, autumn harvest salad, “pear-fect” pumpkin salad, cheesecake with berry compote AND dessert bars. All feed 6–8 people. Order through the web form at chopsandhops.com by Nov. 17 (scroll down to “Upcoming Events”), and pick up on Nov. 22 between 10:30 a.m.–1 p.m.

Donderos’ Kitchen has scaled things back a little from previous years and is offering dressing (traditional or GF, with sausage or without, $15/$28 depending on size), cranberry sauce (vegan and GF, $8/print, $15/quart), turkey rub ($4/half pint), vegan pumpkin bread ($16/loaf) and pie (apple, pumpkin, pecan, coconut cream $17–20 plus $4 to be gluten-free). Fill out the order form at donderoskitchen.com by Nov. 17, and pick up Nov. 21 (12–3 p.m.) or Nov. 22 (9 a.m.–3 p.m.).

El Paso Tacos & Tequila, on Washington Street downtown, is offering a free Thanksgiving meal on Tuesday, Nov. 21, from 3 to 6 p.m.

Em’s Kitchen is taking dessert tray orders for ooey gooey bar halves (24/$33) and cookies (12/$13). Order within 48 hours notice of desired pick-up via the catering form on its website.

Epting Events has turkey ($60/10–12 lbs.), brown sugar-glazed spiral-cut ham ($70/10–12 lbs.), grilled beef tenderloin ($225), dog lick soup ($20/quart), cranberry chutney with pecans ($9/quart), green bean casserole ($30, feeds 15–20, as do most of these things), southern-style green beans ($30), pecan-crusted sweet potato soufflé ($45), squash casserole ($45), garlic mashed potatoes ($30), sage cornbread dressing ($30), giblet gravy ($9/quart), honey-glazed carrots ($30), rice pilaf ($35), collards ($30), rum pecan bundt cake ($45) and cheese biscuits ($8/dozen). Farm Cart is doing an entire meal for $372 that serves 14–18 and includes a whole smoked turkey breast, gravy, mac and cheese, herbed stuffing, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole and 18 mini buttermilk biscuits, or you can get the half order that serves 6–8 for $197. You can also get the individual components of that meal. Order at farm-cart-catering.square.site by Nov. 17 for pick-up Nov. 23 between 9 a.m.–1:30 p.m.

Five Bar and Chuck’s Fish are doing their annual Thanksgiving Feast on the actual day from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. at the latter restaurant. The meal is free, but donations are accepted to benefit Project Safe.

George’s Lowcountry Table is taking orders for Cajun-seasoned deep-fried turkey breast with herb gravy ($70), squash casserole ($38), green bean casserole ($43), sweet potato casserole with pecans and roasted marshmallows ($45), oyster stuffing ($49), mac and cheese ($40) and a fancy bread pudding with peaces, raisins, Chantilly cream and a whiskey sauce ($52). Order by calling 706-548-3359 at least 24 hours in advance to pick up Tuesday, Nov. 22, or Wednesday, Nov. 23.

Home.made has tomato pie (in limited quantities) for $25, orderable by calling the restaurant at 706-206-9216 or emailing [email protected] by Nov. 20.

Independent Baking Co. is taking preorders for pies (maple pecan with Condor cocoa nibs or sweet potato with ginger and cinnamon) at independentbaking.square.site by Nov. 18 for pick-up Nov. 22. 

Kiki’s Bakeshop has an array of pies (pumpkin, chocolate bourbon pecan, bourbon pecan, golden apple and cranberry pear; $19.99 each, $21.99 gluten-free, serves 8), plus pumpkin cheesecake (gluten free, $29.95/6-inch, serves 8-10 or $45.96/9-inch, serves 12-14), caramel apple upside-down cake ($29.95), quiche ($17.99, $19.99 gluten-free; bacon cheddar; broccoli, cheddar, spinach and mushroom; ham, asparagus and tomato), biscuits and rolls ($8.95/dozen, sweet potato biscuits, buttermilk biscuits and yeast rolls) and loaf breads ($9.95, cranberrv orange bread, banana bread, vanilla pound cake). Marti’s at Midday has sides of sweet potato casserole, roasted brussels sprouts tossed with pesto, mac and cheese, cornbread dressing, fresh green beans with brown sugar and pecans and smashed new potatoes for $14/$28 to serve 4/8, buttered yeast rolls ($14/two dozen) and dessert platters ($23.99/serves 12–16) as well as frozen entrees for quick meals ($28/serves 4). Order on the website at martisatmidday.com (look for the pop-up) or email [email protected] by Nov. 15 at noon to pick up Nov. 21 from 1–4 p.m. or Nov. 22 between 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

Pulaski Heights BBQ has its usual wide range of offerings: smoked turkey breast ($75/4-5 lbs, feeding 4-6 and including a quart of gravy), smoked shoulder ham ($65/5 lbs, feeding 10-15, 10 days advance notice required), brisket ($155/6 lbs., feeding 15-20), pork shoulder ($65/5 lbs), 1/2 chicken ($10), a whole rack of ribs ($28) or smoked tofu ($16/quart, $42 half-pan) for entrees; mashed potatoes, baked beans, squash casserole, smoked cauliflower, potato salad, vinegar lime slaw, kimchi, whipped sweet potatoes, mac and cheese, green beans, cornbread dressing (not vegetarian) and collard greens for sides (each $15/quart, $40 half-pan, the latter serving 15-20); plus orange-cranberry sauce ($8/pint), smoky turkey gravy ($15/quart), pork green chile and Brunswick stew (both $16/quart, $45 half-pan) and banana pudding ($15/quart, $40 half-pan) for dessert. Use the online ordering form and look for Thanksgiving offerings at the top of the list. Items can be picked up any day before Thanksgiving OR on Thanksgiving Day between noon and 1 p.m.

Rising Tides drinking service is offering a Thanksgiving-themed array of four bottles of wine (a riesling, a chardonnay and two pinot noirs) selected by winemaker Ross Cobb for $265. Order speedily for pickup at the Old Pal Nov. 17.

Saucehouse is doing a full holiday package that includes turkey or honey ham, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, two sides (choose from mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, green bean casserole, green beans and sweet potato casserole) and Sister Schubert’s rolls. Add tea or lemonade for $2.50 per person and desserts (peach cobbler, bread pudding, banana pudding, brownies/cookies) for $2–3 per person. $20/person pick-up or drop-off (12 people/$250 minimum) or $30/person full-service ($1,000 minimum on site, $2,000 minimum off site). Sweet Pie by Savie has a wide range of desserts and other baked goods: pie (pumpkin, pumpkin chocolate, pumpkin apple, apple, mixed berry, blueberry buttermilk, pecan; $20 for pumpkin, $22 for gluten-free pumpkin; all others $22/$26 GF), cake (pumpkin spice, carrot, coconut and vegan chocolate raspberry; $38-55), cookies (chocolate chip, turmeric ginger, maple pecan, vegan oatmeal raisin; $17/dozen), sweet and savory scones ($19/6, $38/dozen), quiche (bacon onion, chicken green curry, Panang tofu-bamboo shoot, $23) and sweet breads ($17). Order through the online form by Nov. 18.

Weaver D’s is feeding those in need at the restaurant for no charge on Thanksgiving Day, with gospel at noon and food at 2 p.m. Nonperishable food and donations accepted.
