Grub Notes

If you’ve been wondering what’s going to fill the empty spaces at the Georgetown Square shopping center (home to Publix), it looks like Firehouse Subs will be taking one of them. Amazingly, with all the sub sandwich franchises in Athens, the closest Firehouse was in Winder previously. One of the eatery’s big selling points is the presence of a Coca-Cola Freestyle machine, which allows you to mix your own beverage from a wealth of flavoring options.

Just down the road, on Gaines School, in Tower Place Professional Plaza (that relatively new development with the weird tower thing), Taqueria La Parrilla is looking to open its third location. La Parrilla’s done a great job of not slacking on quality even with tremendous business success, and the Eastside could (surprisingly) use better Mexican food.

A sidenote: Pete McCommons emailed to let me know that the veggie chili at the Milledge Avenue Taco Stand is done for the season, a “casualty of global warming” in his words.
