Wondering what restaurant might be going in the former St. Joseph’s chapel as that large development gets underway next to the Flagpole office? Well, Farm Burger is finally opening an Athens location. The popular grass-fed burger chain grew out of what was once Farm 255 in Athens, but the closest it’s been until now is Decatur.
Co-founder Jason Mann says, “Yes, Farm Burger is coming to Athens in 2020. Our story began in the Classic City with Farm 255, and we’re thrilled to bring it full circle with an Athens homecoming. We’re super proud for Athens to be part of our past, present and now future. Over the years, we’ve been waiting for the right location to emerge, and once we got wind of the 100 Prince project, we knew we had found the right spot. So here we are, the circle complete. Athens, get ready to rock some Farm Burger.”
The restaurant is looking to open in late spring or early summer next year.
Five and Ten has 86ed its regular Sunday brunch and decided to close for Sunday dinner, too, giving the staff a much needed day off. Says Eddie Peyton, “We’re going to use the opportunity to allow our staff a dedicated rest day, further develop and hone in on some culinary projects, and host more special events such as pop-ups, porch hangouts and wine dinners.”
Brunch isn’t totally dead, though. Special occasions like Easter and Mother’s Day will see its temporary return, as will the day after big home games like Notre Dame and Kentucky. The restaurant is available for private events on Sunday, too. It also has a new executive chef, Jada Veljkov, who took over the gig in May. And it has a yard sale coming up tomorrow (Saturday, Aug. 24, 11 a.m.–3 p.m.), with cold Creature Comforts, porchetta sandwiches and housemade ice cream, plus vintage goods and more for sale.
Big City Bread is no longer serving dinner. Bajan Delight, on Vine Street, is closed (boohoo). Bella Noche, in Watkinsville, closed on July 28. And I Heart Mac and Cheese, a franchise, is open in the Mark.
