The former Pizza Hut on Baxter Street, near UGA’s dorms, was theoretically a shwarma restaurant/rolled ice cream place/hookah bar for the past two years, but it seemed to be open rarely. It closed officially over the summer, and there’s been some progress happening in the space for the past few weeks. What a delight to discover that it’s not just “another Mexican restaurant” coming to Athens, but, in fact, a second restaurant from the owners of Kique’s Kitchen (currently in Watkinsville), to be named Cielito Lindo (“beautiful sky”). There’s no official opening date yet, but it looks like things are moving along.
The Buffalo Wild Wings on Broad Street will open officially this Saturday, Aug. 9, and the third Fully Loaded Pizza, replacing Square One in Normaltown, opened a few days ago.
The Peach Pit, in Winterville, has closed.
The food hall in the Mark is adding a location of smallish franchise Dumpling Master, which doesn’t have a huge array of dumplings but has more than we currently have in Athens, plus bubble tea, noodles, rice dishes and some snacks.
