People have been theorizing for months that the new tenant of what was previously Gusto on Alps Road, next to Cava, would be a branch of Shake Shack, Danny Meyer’s wildly popular international burger chain. According to the most recent email from Athens-Clarke County’s planning department, it looks like that’s the case (always assuming that the request will go through). With Smalls Sliders going in at the corner of Alps and Baxter Street, in the old service station, it feels like a lot of burgers in a limited area, but Shake Shack makes a pretty quality product. Both are likely to receive plenty of guaranteed business from Clarke Middle School, just down the road.
Ahi Hibachi and Poke has completed its move down Clayton Street into the former Heery’s Too and is back open for business.
The third location of Baddie’s, in Normaltown, is also open.
And Taqueria Mi Rancho is having its grand opening celebration tomorrow, at 840 Hull Road, near the Space Kroger, offering what look like some delicious Michoacan-style tacos. I know, I know, “too many Mexican restaurants,” so many that I’m starting to agree with you, but let’s make an exception for this one.
