Plantation Buffet, on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy. (always an extremely awkward combination), has been renamed J & L Buffet, after the owner’s daughters. The location has been under the ownership of Keith Gray since 1998. Hours also remain weekdays from 10:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
The building at 3755 Atlanta Highway that was the Carriage House, and before that was Sonny’s BBQ for a long time, is no more. In its place will arise a new Barberitos and yet another Dunkin’.
Tacos los Plebes, on Danielsville Road, which is a strong contender for the best tacos in Athens, is opening a second location, also in a former Huddle House, at 1815 Commerce Rd. Tamez has opened its second location, in Watkinsville, in front of the Publix. And 1000 Faces has also opened a second location in Wire Park.
A location of Tropical Smoothie Cafe, a franchise, is opening on Highway 29 North, next to the Papa John’s and the Firehouse Subs.
The Caribou Coffee that replaced Checkers at Hawthorne Avenue and Broad Street is officially open, for drive-through and walk-up business only.
Kique’s Kitchen, in Watkinsville, is now open on Sundays from 11 a.m.–5 p.m.
