Andrew Saunders, a 17-year employee of Athens-Clarke County who has served in a variety of roles, has been named interim assistant manager, ACC Acting Manager Niki Jones announced Friday.
“Andrew has a tremendous amount of experience working in several different departments across ACCGov that provide both internal and external services,” Jones said in a news release. “This unique perspective makes him an excellent person to fill the interim assistant manager position. I look forward to him joining the manager’s office during this transitional period as each of our departments continue to provide high quality services to the community.”
Saunders headed the Central Services Department, overseeing maintenance, landscaping, vehicles, communications and event permits. He also served as interim director of the Housing and Community Development Department. In previous roles with ACC, he worked in the manager’s office as sustainability officer, and served as environmental coordinator and community forestry coordinator.
Saunders replaces Josh Edwards, who left in March to take a job as county manager in South Carolina. Jones, previously the deputy manager for ACC, has yet to replace himself.
James Alexander, assistant director of the Central Services Department, will serve as interim director.
