Athens Congressman Mike Collins Accuses Biden of Ordering a Hit on Trump

While other politicians across the political spectrum were condemning the apparent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, U.S. Rep. Mike Collins, a Republican who represents Athens, had a different take.

Collins, the self-styled edgelord of Congress, said on X (formerly Twitter) that Biden “sent the orders.”

He was responding to a post quoting Biden as saying “it’s time to put a bullseye on Trump.” Biden made the comment on a conference call July 8, in an effort to convince donors to stop talking about his disastrous debate performance and put the focus on his opponent.

Met with widespread disdain in the comments, Collins doubled down.

For comparison, here is the statement U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff, a Democrat, released:

I join all Georgians and Americans in condemning this despicable act of violence and pray former President Trump makes a full recovery. I thank the U.S. Secret Service and law enforcement for their swift response. Political violence is never acceptable and can never be tolerated.

Needless to say, there is no evidence so that Biden had anything to do with the shooting (although, as some wags have noted, he might be immune from prosecution if he did, given the Supreme Court’s recent ruling regarding the president’s official acts). No information about the shooter has been released at this time.

Democrat Lexy Doherty is running against Collins in November, but is considered a long shot because the 10th District is over 60% Republican.
