Athens Congressman Mike Collins Criticized for Anti-Semitic Tweet

U.S. Rep. Mike Collins, a Jackson Republican who represents Athens, has made something of a name for himself as Congress’s resident edgelord. He was at it again Sunday when he responded to a post on X (formerly Twitter) from the racist and antisemitic account Garbage Human commenting on the fact that a Washington Post journalist is Jewish.

Collins’ comment drew bipartisan condemnation, including from state Rep. Esther Panitch, the only Jewish member of the Georgia House of Representatives. But Collins doubled down on his response.

Last month, Collins came under fire for tweeting that he wanted to buy a migrant a ticket on Pinochet Air, a reference to Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, who was known for throwing political dissidents out of flying helicopters. Collins’ account was briefly suspended for that post.

The migrant in question, who was photographed flipping off police, turned out to be innocent. The Manhattan district attorney’s office cleared him of taking part in an attack on police officers in Times Square.
