Frank and Steising Cambero opened Punta Cana Latin Grill, a Dominican restaurant, in the Bottleworks on Prince Avenue in late 2019. Four years later, they’re close to opening their second restaurant, a steakhouse called Frank and Sons, in the Ansonborough development on Gaines School Road. Frank says they do have sons, but for now they’re toddlers and unable to help in the restaurant.
Frank and Sons is a couple of weeks away from opening still. Frank says that even though his and his wife’s background is in Dominican food, they love to cook all kinds of food at home, including steak. The restaurant will have “all the traditional” items: mashed potatoes, broccoli, T-bones, lobster tail, plus a full bar. The Ansonborough space last housed Craft Public House, a bistro-y kind of restaurant, and has been empty for some time. You can follow Frank and Sons on Instagram for updates.
Bar Bruno, in Five Points, has expanded its hours, running 11 a.m.–7 p.m. Sunday, 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and 11 a.m.–10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. PLUS it has added new, more substantial menu items. A daily frittata, maritozzi (mini brioche rolls filled with whipped cream) and panini will be available in limited quantities early on, while the rest of the menu (now including eggplant caponata, preserved mackerel with sun-dried tomatoes and capers, and a dip made with cannellini) will be available throughout the day. Wine-tasting events are coming soon, and the expanded hours should make it easier for people to shop the retail element of the bar.
