Nighthawks Lounge, the most recent project from Jerry and Krista Slater (of the Expat, the Lark Winespace and Slater’s Steakhouse), opened Tuesday, July 26, in Newtown at 175 Tracy St. In addition to cocktails (the Slaters’ particular passion), it also serves what its owners call “grandpa snacks”: an upscale bologna sandwich, pimento cheese, tinned fish, salted peanuts and other tasty salt bombs. Flat Circle Pizza will also be popping up at Nighthawks.
Vickie Shell, the mother of Lil Ice Cream Dude Beau Shell and as much a part of the success of that business as Beau since its earliest days, has been diagnosed with brain cancer, meaning the business has been closed from time to time and missed many of the summer events that help it pay its bills.
