College Station Road Will Reopen Monday Night

The portion of College Station Road that has been closed for almost a month will reopen on the evening of July 25, according to Athens-Clarke County.

Westbound lanes between the Loop and Research Drive were damaged by a water main break caused by a private contractor installing broadband internet fiber on June 28. The break created voids underneath the roadway that rendered it unsafe.

Contractor E.R. Snell is repairing the road at a cost of $460,000. Final core testing and striping is scheduled to be completed Monday evening, weather permitting.

Originally, ACC officials had said the road might not reopen until Aug. 12, the date when UGA students move into their dorms. But the work will be completed more than two weeks earlier.
