A portion of College Station Road near the Loop remains closed indefinitely after a water main break damaged the roadway.
The road is closed to westbound traffic between the Loop and the North Oconee Access Road. In addition, westbound through traffic is restricted between the access road and Research Drive. Affected drivers are advised to use Barnett Shoals Road or Milledge Avenue instead. Eastbound lanes are open.
After a main break on June 28, a preliminary inspection found underground voids along the closed stretch of College Station. A geotechnical firm is expected to produce a full report by July 13. Athens-Clarke County officials hope to repair and reopen the road by Aug. 12, when University of Georgia students will move into their dorms.
