Condor Chocolates Is Opening Downtown This Month

Sometimes we can have nice things. Although it might have seemed like Condor Chocolates was never going to get around to opening its downtown Athens location, due to a few things like the global pandemic, Peter Dale says the new factory and café will open Nov. 24.

Opening on Washington Street, next to the College Avenue parking deck, Dale says, “This location replaces production space we’ve outgrown at Chase Park, along with adding a second café and shop.” The Five Points location will keep doing its thing, too.

The new downtown location will feature large windows allowing guests to watch the process of the folks who work in chocolate production. Condor has also ventured into the world of coffee, with its Choco Coffee relying on Ecuadorian beans sourced from coffee grower and exporter Juan Peña. The coffee is named after the Choco toucan, which lives in Ecuador’s coffee-growing regions and is named after the Chocó forest, not after chocolate.

Dale says, “Our Downtown coffee program will use state-of-the-art Decent Espresso machines. These machines, the first in Athens, give us more control over each variable in the extraction process than ever before.”

The downtown location will be open 10 a.m.–6 p.m. daily to start, with all kinds of holiday treats, and expand in January. You can also find Condor in a tent at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia’s WonderLights event this December, serving up hot cocoa, coffee and a WonderBar chocolate bar only available there.
