Slutty Vegan (and Some Other Franchises) are Coming to Baxter Street

If you’ve been following the renovation of the long, low commercial building at 700-ish Baxter Street, you’ve been seeing various banners hung up for different franchise restaurants. There’s one for Newk’s, a sandwiches/salads/soups family-oriented place that opened a location on Epps Bridge Parkway in Oconee County. There’s one for Surcheros, a Tex-Mex place out of Douglas, GA that does grilled burritos and a s’mores quesadilla. And now there’s one for Slutty Vegan, a party-oriented vegan burger franchise out of Atlanta that’s likely to grab the most attention.

Founded by Pinky Cole, who is damn smart at branding and marketing, the restaurant features plant-based burgers, “chicken” sandwiches, “shrimp,” bratwurst, jerk plantains and more, all complete with vegan cheese, buns and sauces. Fries and fried pickles come with dipping sauces, including blackberry mayo, and there are slices of sweet potato pie or popsicles for dessert. This will be the fifth location of Slutty Vegan, and it plans to keep late-night hours as well as doing lunch and dinner Tuesday–Sunday, opening in early 2022. It’s not a bad idea at all considering how close the building is to UGA’s dorms and a bunch of students who tend to roll in late in the evening needing some calories that might as well be vegan.
