The Athens-Clarke County Commission will vote Tuesday on renewing the city’s mask ordinance.
The ordinance, passed in April 2020, was allowed to lapse in May, when cases per 100,000 people dropped below 100 over a two-week period. However, with the Delta variant spreading rapidly, cases per 100,000 over 14 days rose above 100 last week and currently stand at 196.
Clarke County, like almost every county in Georgia, is considered by the CDC to be a “high transmission” area where it is now recommended that everyone wear a mask inside regardless of vaccination status.
Savannah and Atlanta both reinstated their indoor mask mandates last week.
In addition, the commission will also vote on a resolution instructing Manager Blaine Williams to come up with a plan to require that all ACC employees be vaccinated.
